Short circuit 2 Prop Restoration

We had the neat opportunity to restore one of the original Number Five toy props from the 1988 movie Short Circuit 2. While a small number were remote controlled, this was one of many static versions created to populate the toy factory. At some point, this prop’s wrists had broken off, one of the forearms had snapped, and the upper half of his neck and his eyelids had gone missing.

The restoration was completed with help from Andrew Friedberg of the Johnny Five builder group Input Inc., who created CAD models for some of the missing bits that were then 3D printed.

The work involved

• repairing damaged sections

• moulding and casting replacement parts

• integrating 3D printed parts

• sympathetic paint touch-ups
